Cheapest Place for Vortech

As the title states, I'm looking for the cheapest place to purchase a Vortech MP10.

Also is the wireless driver really that much of an advantage? It will be running on a 29 gallon biocube so its not like the pump will be far from the driver.

Thanks!

The wireless driver is for communicating to another Vortech pump, not for transmitting from the driver to the pump.

Cheapest I've seen is off eBay. Offered a guy $190 shipped for one BNIB and got it. Second cheapest was Big Als online with a coupon code floating around online.

Good luck!

Cheapest will be here in the used equipment section...

Besides that...most places online charge the same.

If you're only buying 1 powerhead...wireless is a waste of $$$. You need more than one vortech to use the wireless feature, as they will communicate with each other and work together rather than against...

Okay I misunderstood the wireless option then. So if I'm only running one pump I don't need the wireless option correct?

And just to make sure the only difference between the MP10 ES and the MP10w ES is the wireless driver? and I could get that upgrade at a later date if I ever upgraded, correct?

The "w" after the MP10 means wireless.

It's absolutely useless if you only run 1 pump. It's meant for multiple pumps on a tank...so the pumps can sync and run off one another.

You can always add the "w" feature later...but if you are thinking of buying another pump down the road, just opt for the wireless one now as it'll be cheaper (rather than upgrading later).

BTW: The ES model is the same thing as the older MP10...in terms of flow (gph). The only difference is the ES model brings a newer controller that has a few extra modes to run the pump on.

I have 1 MP20 on my 45 gallon. I run it 100% on Reef Crest Mode. Doesn't have the newest ES controller...just the old blue box and I'm perfectly happy.

^^^Almost every person runs there's on Reef Crest Mode or Long Pulse (creates a wave). If you just need a pump...you might want to save the $$$ and get an older model from someone selling it.

Someone yesterday just sold a slighly used one on NanoReef for $130 shipped...

There are deals out there for used ones...you just gotta go find them!

Actually it's the same price.

$220 for the non W, $265 for the ESw. If you want to update your MP10 non W with the wireless addin board it's $45 bucks.

Pretty cool it's no more expensive if you ask me.

actually its not, someone is always running 10% off, so really you can get the mp10es for 198, the mp10wes for 239. and the board is 45. you are ony saving a couple dollars. but a couple dollars can go along ways

Group buys happen every now and then (check your local club). Generally the more the group buys (of any single model) the less each unit costs. That is probably the best option when buying new. The forums are great for buying used though... I recently purchased an MP10 ESw that was 4 months old (verified still has 8 months mnfrs warranty) for $150 locally from a guy that was upgrading tanks and was looking for quick cash to pour right back into the hobby.

If you say so. I got my MP10 ES for $190 shipped NEW. + $45 for the wireless module = $235. In my case I'll come out cheaper than having bought the MP10w ES with a 10% off code. If you consider I could get 10% off the wireless module then I'll have an even deeper discount. $40.50 for the module. ;) or $230.50 for a MP10w ES.

but you would have to pay for extra shipping if you ordered online for the board.
there are a lot of ifs to the situation but the earlier poster gave the pricing based on what most people will be able to get it for.

i could get mine for 20% off at the once a year sale at my lfs and ecotech is there demonstrating and encourage the 20% off price.

Not if you shop smart of have other items to order from said place. Heck, even DFS carries the board. It's not hard to spend another $4 to get free shipping.

Local purchases have tax added in. So online could still be cheaper. It's really nitpicking over a couple dollars though. In the grand scheme of what we spend on these tanks, $5 or so really doesn't make a huge difference. :strooper:

in the FOR SALE thread on this site..
NEW, you're going to pay pretty much the same price, no matter where you go..

Thanks!

"wireless" refers to the manner in which one MP10 will synchronize with another..

ALL of the units are hard wired to the controller, all of them (with the exception of size) look just alike

Cheapest would be to "borrow" someone elses off their tank... :)

I would look in the for sale section where you are located or even out of state. I've seen them sell for as low as 300 add 10-20 for shipping and it's still cheaper than online store.

Also, if you pay cash at my LFS you don't have tax. Under the table is a great way to fly! :)

Haha. Possibly illegal as well. Perhaps it's "added" into the cash price.

i know the mp40 comes in under 375 with tax.

the percents off work out better for the mp40 than the mp20 as far as savings go.
