Does anyone know how to go about fragging these?
They are not your normal zoanthid.
I am trying to find some information on fragging them, and when I find out how to do these right, I will be posting a few frags for sale.
Any interest?

lay the rock on some newspaper, grab a screw driver and a hammer and break a few pieces off - now you have mounted frags. use a clean new razor blade to cut the mat that is still attached.
then let me know what you want for a frag! depending on how far away you are.

The thing is, there is no rock. That is just a soft, almost fleshy(sp?) type branch. It almost looks like the polyps come right out of the branch, instead of having any kind of mat.
I might have to just do a test, and cut a small piece off, and see what happens with it.

Use a scalpel. Also, be careful to cover your eyes as they often squirt and they are toxic. When done, make sure to dip them in either Lugol's solution or Coral Cure made into a dip. If you bring them in, I'll do them for you.

I understand fragging "normal" zoanthids, but these are nothing like normal.
Is the fleshy branch going to "squirt" at me, or just the polyps?
I might have to take you up on fragging these.

I read your post right this time. It looks like live rock that it is on.
But it is a flexible, fleshy type "branch". For a lack of better words.

I wonder if it could be a sponge growing on the LR? Is it flexible? You could possibly snip the fleshy bits apart?

If you have any protective eyewear like glasses or what not yes definitely wear them - most soft polyps can squish out water while you're working with them and want to avoid getting any potential toxins in your eyes\mouth etc for safety reasons (ever read about palytoxins? yuck)

Sounds exactly like they were put on/grew on a dead sponge. Some people do this as a fragging technique, one that I am not fond of.

Sponge should be very easy to break apart and you can use either of the methods described above, just wherever you see the word rock, replace it with sponge. You can cut directly through the sponge and it should not spit at you...it would just be the zoos that would do the spitting.

These things are amazing. I just left his house and saw them in person. I dont think they were fragged into a dead sponge. They look like they are coming right out of the tissue or whatever it is. They are BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

hexedagain, these are not zoas...I seen something similar to these on the Zoanthid forum and they stated they were some type of anemone. You might want to place a picture there and get a better ID. Just an FYI.

Somebody stated these were "branch polyps". They look like a zoanthid.
