after several months of leaving the dt fallow after horrible ich outbreak killed all our fish, my gf and I have begun to restock the tank. I have wanted one of these guys since I got into the hobby but waited over a year to ensure I had plenty of pods in the tank and finally got one! check him out

from everything I've read, dragonets are less likely to contract ICH or other external parasites because of some kind of slime coat/lacking scales like other fish have.

Could be wrong, but nice fish. They're what got me into the hobby too, but unlike you I have yet to buy one.

Think you are right, these guys have a slime coat that keeps them clean of parasites. Just need a lot of pods. Sadly only one I ever had went carpet surfing about 5 years ago

They are not immune to ich. Some fish have better immune systems/coatings, but they aren't immune completely. Hate to see you have to go thru the same process over again. But good luck with the her. She is a cutey.

thanks! She's really cool to watch hunt down copepods. she spends 90% of the day scooting around the rockwork eating pods.

If you have a horrible ick outbreak most likely it's velvet trust me I am an angelfish killer.
IMHO you should go fallow for a couple of months even though this fishes have good tolerance with ick .

I did go fallow for several months before adding new fish. I have heard that mandarins are more resistant to ich due to their heavy slime coat. I added two juvi cinnamon clowns first and they went into the Dt about two weeks ago. They have been doing great in fact I am 99% sure I watched them pair up last night. The female has been hosting my Rbta since the day I put her in the tank and the male was bullied to the opposite end of tank. if he came within three feet of the nem the female gave him the business. late last night however I was watching the tank and the male made his way into hostile territory lol, and the female approached. He began to shake violently in front of her and they then swam in a circle rubbing up against one another and gently nudging each other w their lips. I went to sleep and expected to wake up to them at opposite sides of the tank, but to my surprise she was in nem and he was about 8" below at the base of the rock where nemmie is attached. all day long she stayed in nem n he has swam about six inches from the nem n female clown. Anybody else think they paired?? I'm hoping that because the cinnamons are doing so well and so is the new target mandarin that I irradicated my ich problem. keep your fingers crossed for me cause I cant handle another tragedy like that. I cant tell you how many times during that battle that I wanted to tear down and quit! well glad I didn't, what a wonderful hobby

i do have a quarentine tank set up . Its a 14 gallon rubbermaid with hob filter, thermometer, heater, air stone, and pvc for hiding. I set it up at the first site of ich outbreak as a hospital tank, tore it down and soaked it and all the equipment in bleach solution before re-establishing it.
