This acro was a pale, bleached brown when I got it a year and half ago. I got it healthy and growing and it turned pink but always looked a bit bleached. I think it was advertised as a tri color acro when I purchased it.

Heres a picture of how it looked for the last year or so in my 50g breeder. It seemed very healthy with good growth.

In january, i upgraded to a larger tank and was careful to set up everything as right as I knew how. The swich was smooth as silk and all my corals were growing and looking better than ever! So check out the acro now. Its morphing to a color it never even hinted of in the previous tank.
What kind of acro would you say this is? Does this change look healthy to you?

Yes, it looks awesome. I had a coral 1 time that I bought browned out and turned bright purple. Good luck with it.

That is amazing! Did you change anything in the new tank? Did you use different bulbs, ballasts?

The bulb and ballast is the same tho the reflector is MUCH better. The coral was about 1" below the surface in the first pic/tank and is now about 9" down.

My old tank was started with tap water and some old crushed coral under a new sand bed so I think that tank had some "root problems". Tho it was a very successful tank, i think there were some underlying problems. The new tank was started with 100% ro di water and cured live rock and new sand bed. My corals started showing excellent health almost immediately in the new tank.

Call me crazy, I think while both are beatiful in their own right, the top one looks like it's a bit burnt at a couple of the tips, but it's hard to tell. Might just be the camera etc. I would definitely say the new tank has lower param's or the lower position is making it happier. Either way, looks really nice, congrats.

What he was saying is that they are both the same colony, but the second picture shows what it eventually became when transferring to a newer, better setup.

What a nice surprise! Better than turning a dirty brown I would say...

I'll soon be moving into a bigger tank and hope I have as smooth a transition as you've had.

Keep up the good work. It is obviously paying off.

It would seem that this particular coral prefers to be further away from your lights. It's typical of a lot of corals to make a color change, according to the amount of light they receive. Also, contrary to a lot of current thinking, SPS corals CAN get too much light.
