Vote so far in the discussion forum is a sponge of some sort. Kind of startled me. Moved my chaeto over a little and here's this rock with this pitch black thing on it:

Looks like sponge to me...I had a bunch of that stuff on some rock I sold off.

I wish.

That's what alot of people have been guessing, although one guy threw in there that he thought he saw something on these ones that are black like this having some kind of toxic qualities or whatever? I dunno. I put a post in to Mr. Calfo to see if he can tell me anything about it as well. Not sure when he'll get the time to respond though. One thing is that I know sponges really aren't supposed to touch the air, but when I first saw this on the lower part of the rock, I grabbed the rock and picked it up to look at it, so I'll have to watch it closely now to make sure I didn't already do something bad to it.

Why couldn't I have a cool looking purple or orange sponge or something like that?

I got a response from Greenbean basically saying that he thought it was a sponge and didn't see any particular reason to worry about it. Calfo answered a whole bunch of stuff yesterday, so I'm sure he saw my question as well, but he didn't add anything so I'm kind of assuming he just agreed with what Greeanbean said and left it at that. So, evil looking black sponge dude that supposedly isn't going to hurt anybody.

....still, he's on his own rock in a corner of the fuge by himself. He looks kind of shifty, I don't trust him.

I also found what is either just a regular mushroom or perhaps a red colored ricordia growing in there too! I need to move him to the main tank. But it's pretty cool that he's growing under the fuge light is all.

I moved a coral to my bigger tank that has the MH's on it and the Sponge went away I don't think it likes high powered lights. :) But it seems to be growing slowly in my 45 with pc's.

thanks for the info.

Todd
