Chicago Area Stores

Just an FYI, but I guess the new King Coral store is up and running in Mt. Prospect now! My mom stopped by and got me a business card. I haven't actually been there yet, so can't comment on what's there.

All Aquatica does is salt water, just FYI... They can be expensive too, but it is a LFS, so your not going to get many "swap" prices.

I haven't been to Go Fish in a couple of weeks, but last time I was there, their main frag tank was almost empty and the corals in it were all browned out. I'm not sure whats going on with that. I also noticed that on some of the frags, there was bubble algae, so be careful. I do love that store though, and the guys there have always helped me out, even doing on the spot deals. I got my snake there and I'll get my girlfriend's PDFs there too. Most of my larger pieces are from there, and all have done well.

Capture the sea is my least favorite of the three. Their coral selection is limited and no 'frags'.

I live in the SW burbs, and that about covers all the local places.

The Gent: Have you been to Exotic Aquatics in Highland Indiana. Great place to go if you want quality corals and health fish. Kurt the owner also knows his stuff, he won't sell you something you will not be able to keep alive. Out of the 8+ years of dealing with him I have not lost a fish yet and have never been steered wrong with selecting corals and inverts either. He is just starting to get a better selection of SPS and assorted frags.

Bought a few items there, prices were good. place was very busy. I've bought from exotic aquatics and the coral and clam I bought both died within a week, the clam was dead in a day, last things I will ever buy there. I only shop now at Aquatic Reef in Dundee since it's closest. So if I called them decent it's because the animals I bought are still living in my tank.

I have never bought anything at Exotic Aquatics that had died. Everything I have purchased from there I still have. The owner will not sell anything that will not survive in your system, unless you disregard his recomendations. I have been shopping there for a long time and is the only place I purchase livestock from. There are many people on this forum that will agree with me that has had the same positve experience that I have had.

Yes, but I'm sure it was an isolated thing with what happen to me. I didn't want to come across as disrespecting the store and I'm sure they sell very heathly fish and corals.

It's all good. I just wanted to clarify which Exotic Aquatics you were referring to, since there's two of them locally. :)
