Chickening out of drilling holes!

Yes despite actually trying it out myself on a throwaway tank (thank you guys again), I am lacking the guts to drill my 125. Given that I have my man-cave behind the tank, I am thinking of going the route of a Lifreef HOB. I know there are lots of threads out there but I just want to get some fresh opinions on the matter. Thank you in advance.

I've drilled a few tanks in my day and its really very anti-climatic. But you only get that feeling after doing a few. And only when it is on it's side and not filled. I wouldn't even attempt it filled.

imho, I'd be more worried with a HOB. Any loss in power could stop the suction so you will need a aqualifter to restore the suction before the return pump overflows the tank. That is something that will always weigh on your mind. And of course when this happens you will not be there. That's Murphy's law.

This is something every reefer has to go through at some point. I would not trust any reefer who told you he has never flooded or spilled more than a few gallons. I over flowed my 29 and my 75, not super drastically, but enough for me to put in a modified Beananimal on my 180 :) Good luck with whatever you choose.

UY! Thanks for the feedback but am I being paranoid? I would be doing it empty but in place. Taking it outside would be an ordeal. And for the BeanAnimal don't you need 3 holes?

Maybe a little bit. Certainly understandable. check out glass-holes.com I've used their kits to drill and they work great. With a few towels you can do it inside pretty easily. You don't need that much water. I did my 75 on my living room carpet. And I am talking the sides, not the bottom.

For an official yes. I have three holes, except one goes directly to my skimmer.

My tank also has an external overflow, so it was much easier.

good luck

You can do it just take your time and let the bit do the work don't push while drilling. The first hole is the hardest after that your a pro! You will be much happier with a drilled tank and feel better about yourself as a hobbest:)
Many videos on this just watch and copy. Soon you will be drilling other memebers tank!!
