chiller gph

i was wondering what will happen if i use lower gph pump on the chiller (which is lower than the manufacturer suggested)?

why does it really matter?

I think it'll cause your chiller to short cycle (turn on and off more frequently), which is not good for the life of your chiller.

and if you don't have enough flow, you could ice up the heat exchanger, reducing/stopping the chiller.

can you explain why the slow flow cause it on and off more frequent?

because it chills the water in the jacket, reaching the lower set temp, shuts off, then warmer water comes in, it turns on and chills that water down, shuts off, etc..
