Chiller question

I just hooked up my first chiller (jbj Arctica 1/4 hp) and I set the temp to 78 however atm its up to 78.8 and still hasn't fired up. Am I missing something? I would think when it gets over 78 it would turn on and bring it a couple tents below.

These have a +- tollerance. Check the owners manuel for what yours is. If it is 1 degree then it won't kick on until 79.

Never mind I just tested it and yea it shuts off one degree lower too. Kinda a bummer didn't really want it having a 2 degree swing a couple times a day was hoping to keep it a bit more stable than that.

Just make such your temp probe is in a good location. Not where it will be thrown off by heaters or water returning from chiller.

My chiller is hooked up to an Apex controller so when my tank gets to 78.5, my pump kicks on and 15secs later the chiller powers up - it is preset to 76, but is powered off when tank gets to 78.0. I think you can do the same thing with a temp controller - I believe they usually are set up to work with heaters, but maybe you can find something to work with a chiller.

Yea I'm just gonna hook it up to my Apex. Only thing is ill probably have to run a new circuit over to the tank to do this. Good thing I'm an electrician ;)
