I have a 1/4 power chiller on my 40 breeder. I have it set to 79 degrees. I also have it in my cabinet. I don't have a door on the cabinet and the chiller is in front. The chiller puts off a lot of heat. Enough to heat up the room. Dose anyone have a chiller and dose it heat up your room also. I don't think that I can run it in the summer time. When I don't have the chiller going my water gets up to 90 degrees. Any advise would be great. Oh a little bit about my tank. I have a canopy with very little ventilation that I have to fix and I need LED lights. Right now I have a 250 watt MH. Thanks for the help.

Do you have a lot of equipment heating the water? What temp is your house at?
I am able to keep my tanks between 78-80 Just by aiming desk fans at the water. I do use LEDs and do not have a canopy, but I wonder if you have a pump running hot.
90 seems hot, especially for this time of year, even with metal halides.

I have a Sicca that move 1200gph but It is not running hot. The canopy was holding a lot of heat and my house is at 79 degrees. I was thinking about running fans on my sump. It might also be because of the wall that the tank is on.
I would suggest putting some 1" holes in the top of your canopy. Natural convection will remove some of the heat. A larger hole or two with 5v USB fans would work even better. You can plug them into a typical USB charger on a timer it you don't need them on all the time or you can program them to your apex.

Hmmm. Are you in Phoenix Metro? I think the homeostasis temperature is varied depending on the system. I used to have a tank that always ran hot--83 degrees. I had a fan blowing on top of the tank to cool it down. If ran contiously, the fan could cool it down to 74 degrees. I had to hook it up to a timer for off-on every 15 minutes (the kind with the round dial and you push the tabs up and down).
In my current system, the tank is always running cold--74 degrees. I have to use a heater in the summer time!

Yeah. I think I will try the fan idea. I live way west in Surprise at Cotton and Waddle. I thought it was cooler out here but that sun is warm.

I live in Mesa. House thermostat is set to 85. Average temp on a 66 gallon tank with sump and 2 power heads with a 900gl/h pump was 80 in summer time. I was going to Vietnam for 3 weeks and picked up a chiller (setup outside of cabinet) since the father in law was feeding and I didn't want to worry about temps. Evaporation was about 5 gallons per week.
Never had any issues, but I don't keep it in the cabinet.
Maybe you should have an ac tech check it. shouldn't be much if you take it in to them.
