Mark this guy has advertised on Craigslists for years and he fixed my friend's chiller. He is in Fort Lauderdale. Here is his link.

I think that's the guy I used. I had a thread not to long ago.

Guys name is wade, google cool fish chillers. Fixed my chiller in less than an hour!

I second that guy he also fixed mine. He took it all apart and cleaned it welded the fan and got it back up and running in less then 2 hours. Mine was also a 1/2hp.

Wade is the man if you need chiller repair! He is well prepared and knows his stuff. Also pricing is good! My chiller had a freon leak. Found corrected and recharged the freon. For u ac guys its not the same freon used in ac units its a different number and if you use the ac stuff it will bring problems. Sps corals are saying thank you!

The unit was 5-6 yrs old but new in the box when I bought it at a frag swap. Aquamedics is pro only out of business. The freon leak was a bad solder job by the manufacture.
Lesson 1. You get what you pay for. Even after the quick repair cost it still cost very little and it works. So I am ok with it
Lesson 2. After getting educated by wade on how these things are built I would avoid most of the imported mainly from china models. Pay up for the American made stuff.
Lesson 3. These things are fixable. Don't trash one without having it looked at by wade.

Wade is the man. Fixed many of my chillers until I upgraded to a larger 1 ton air handler that he also makes.

Of course chiller freon is different from the stuff at home.

It's probably R134. Homes use a number of different freon from R22, R410a, and other retro gases. Any AC tech knows this or they just don't know anything.

2 things:
1)Sorry, I had to remove the links. We have this thing about posting links to Craigslist or Ebay. I get it that it's not your ad, but in the interest of keeping the field level, all links to offsite sales/auctions will be removed. Nothing personal.

2)Don't make the mistake I made. There's a guy in Florida that sells "chillers", supposedly BNIB. Take a few minutes:

As rps3 said. If you don't know what your doing than its just a hobby and should be left for professionals. Most aquarium chillers are 134a light blue cyl
I do have an older 1/2 hp that is r22 so to say cant be same stuff as home ac is false
As long as tech fixes leak and weights in charge your good
I had a huge debate with a guy saying his chiller need recharge I told him make sure they find leak and fix it long story short he was recharging it every 3 months told me cause its old like a car will burn more gas lol
