I,d like to get some opinions on my new 30 cube setup. I have a CSL 1/4 drop-in chiller I was going to use and started thinking it might cool the water down too fast. I will be using a 400m/h pendant about a foot or so from the open top which will generate a signifigant amount of heat. I would be worried that the temp would fluctuate too fast, even if the temp controller is set to 1deg. What do you think?

if you have a decent temp controller there should be minimal temp swing i would think. if you have it set within a degree or two it should stay there. only problem with that might be a constant cycling of the chiller/heater. maybe you could throw a big sump on there or plumb it to your other tank (75 gallon im assuming) to keep it a bit more stable. also, a 400 watt a foot off your tank should allow alot of heat to dissapate before it starts affecting your tank but i dont know that for sure. just throwing some ideas out there.

Thanks for the fast response. I have sold off most of the 75gal equipment to make room for the new 30.(Iknow I'm going backwards) I have kept the chiller, lighting ballasts, litermeter, calcium reactor etc. I have not decided on return pumps or other devices yet. I know I will be running an approx 20 gal sump w/ a 10 gal refugium and I will probably use some sort of oceansmotions unit for the water return. I am still undecided on a skimmer. I was just thinking that maybe I should sell this chiller and buy one that is better suited to this volume of water. I don't necessarily like the drop-in cooling coil either. I already have the tank. It has a 4x4 overflow in the center of the rear and two return bulkheads, 1 on each side of the overflow. I think with a strong pump and an alternating device I wont need a c/l. I will have to set up and then make that decision.
