Chiller with a 24DX nanocube canopy?

Has anyone gotten a chiller to work with a nanocube that has its canopy? How?

I am thinking about going with the nanotuners ICA 2.0, but I don't know if that will be enough to keep my seahorse nanocube cool. My house has AC, but the tank temp reaches the mid 79f range with the lights on and I need to keep it at 75 or below. Any other mod ideas to get the temp down? None of this would be an issue if I didn't love the horses. :)

A number of things you can do, depending on your DIY skills and pocket book.

Right now I'm testing a 150MH in my 24NC... some serious heat issues which I've seem to have beaten, for now. However, when the summer rolls around, I think I'll have problems. So, I'm in the market for a Chiller as well.

Yes, you can do a Chiller with a hood. Take a look at Dja1980's thread on nano-reef... GREAT information. You will see how he integrated the chiller into his hood.

Next... have a look at artarmon42's thread... he replaced fans and added significnat evaporative cooling using a scroll fan at the back of the hood. Others made soem improvements to it as well. This thread gives a full diary of how to pull it off.

Good luck to you... from my understanding those horses of yours really need stable and cool water... a chiller may be the best and most controllable solution. Tell us what you do and post some pics if you decide to mod!

ONe more thing... I dont' think the ICA 2.0 is going to have enough Pull down power for you to move your tank 4 degrees. But, call Chris at nanocustoms.com and ask him... but I think that is asking alot of that little device. Double check, though

I called nanotuners and the ICA is not going to do it. I don't think fans will be enough either so a chiller is my only choice. I did order the heatsink and fan upgrade they use for their 3.36 + 1.24 upgrade. He said that should get me a few degrees, especially just running stock 2x36 lighting. I replaced the return with a Maxijet 1200 last night. They are rated the same but the maxijet has alot more flow. Will it warm the tank more or less?

I am probably going to pick up a Prime nano chiller today if I can find one in LA. I like the control of it better than the jbj and it can also control the heater. I'll post what it takes to get it plumbed.

Yeah.. post some pictures when you have it done.

Right now I have 2 mj1200's in my tank (no inhabitants yet) and I think it adds greatly to the heat problems. I've been told that mj900's are actually more efficient than the 1200's.

1200's are rated @20 watts and the 900's are at 8watts, I think... Granted, the flow is reduced, BUT, you are getting better flow per watt with the 900's than the 1200... anythign can help, right???

Good luck and keep us posted.

I installed a hydor flo deflector and a jbj nano chiller today. I just had to cut large openings in the back of the hood for the hoses. While I was at it I cut one for the future ATO. I'll get some pictures posted asap. I don't know how well it is going to do at keeping the temp at a constant 75 deg. but I'm hoping.
