How big of tank does that accommodate

1/4 is good to about 180 total gallons. then again, I am using one that size on my tank and I am pushing 220 gallons.

Size and capacity depends more so on how many degree's you need to pull your water Temp down. If it a huge amount of heat you will nedd a larger unit verses if it's only a couple of degree's that you need to drop your temp. Another Issue would be a under sized unit will run 24/7 and never get the temp down but get your power bill way up!

If you use 80 degree's as an Median Temp that is OK you are getting Temps as close to 90 degrees then??? If not what temp is the tank running at now??
