Not exactly sure lol, but it sounds like there is a probe that sticks in you water which you can put into a power filter or bulkhead the thing. and it cools your tank down with out using a pump kinda like an electric heater does. Then you plug it in to a temp controller so that it turns off once your tank has cooled down to a certain degree. I'd look up some more info on it since I have no personal experience with them
