Chip in 40B, Toss or Repair?

Hi everyone,
I accidentally started my weekend by chipping the side of my new 40B.:headwally: Is this something I can fill in with silicone or should I go buy another one? If I should buy another one, does anyone know anything about breaking down a tank and using the glass for something else like baffles in a sump. Thanks!

Just fill up the tank outside and let it sit for a week to test for leak. Doesn't look too bad from the pic. I seen bigger chips and tank is still good.

I would get a new one. If the chip was just on the corner away from the silicone I'd say it's ok. But that chip goes all the way to the edge into the silicone.

Not worth it. 40b not on sale are about 70 bucks. Drop in the bucket son. Drop in the bucket.

I agree.
Plus you can get a nice 40B from petco for 40 when the sale is going on..
Drop in the bucket. I'll drop 40 on new carbon or a new reactor without even blinking... 40 gallons on the floor is a lot of water...

As for reusing your old panels, use a box cutter razor blade to cute the panels apart.

You could also get a glass cutter and cut the damaged panel(s?) to smaller pieces so you could do a redesign on a sump or something. though, from what I hear glass-cutting is a little difficult for someone who has never done it before.

Yeah im not sure yet if i want to tackle the cutting part. Will call a local glass shop tomorrow and see how much they would charge to cut the panels. Definitley will use them for my sump and maybe overflow, thanks!

New tank would probably be cheaper than having the glass company cut the old one....

I think he's just cutting into to save the panels for future projects.. Which I what I should have done with my busted 55 instead of loosing my temper with a framing hammer. Though it felt good at the time.

Yup ill just use the panels for baffles in my sump...although the hammer option is not completley off the table...
