chlorine breakthrough carbon blocks

I just hooked up the chloramine monster (with a pentek chloroplus after it) do my system. I'm testing at .02 ppm total Cl leaving the pentek chloroplus. Just before I installed this, my triple carbon carts, all 10" standard size (of 2 chloramine removal - activated carbon, followed by regular carbon block) gave .4 ppm Cl leaving it!. These have produced at most 100 gallons of water, so they are not near their lifetime use. I'm really amazed at the difference.
**I tested after the RO, and I think it read .4 also. I forgot that reading, but I know it was not near 0, and the test solution was pink before putting in the Hanna checker.
**Testing after the DI, came about 0 ppB (parts per billion). So the DI was doing overtime pulling out CL.

Very nice!

SO you have a similar setup as me now? A chloramine monster with 3 carbons after that, then RO and di?

Yes.. I was trying to be like yours lol. I have a small under cabinet sink area for my RO DI. What I have now barely fits. So I really can't feasibly do THREE carbons after the Monster :). I do have two sediment filters prior to the monster. A GE one that is supposed to be a step up from a normal sed filter, and then a zeta zorb. I have a ton of fine sediment, which I do not want to clog up the monster :) . But I'm ultra happy about the huge difference in CL. I even got the Hanna checker, low range, which is how I can see readings down to 0 ppb (which comes out of the DI). I'm getting a new RO membrane.. delivered today. I'd get SPUre, but cant justify the cost since DI refill is only $12. And SP charges for shipping :-/ . I'm very ADD on the chloramine, and very glad I came across yoru posts. About to do as close to 100% water change as possible this weekend, and restart my tank.

update on my system: I did the full entire water change of my 65 gallon tank + sump, only an 1" I couldnt get out of the tank. I managed to pump out 90% of the water in the sump also. Anyhow, filled back with new chloramine free water. I even put in a new 5 pack of SPS from LiveAquaria -- the tester corals. My xmas porites from before look even better (somehow they didnt die in the last tank downfall). The new frags look amazing. they are mostly acros, with polyps about to pop out especialy at night. A nice tiny acro I had before that I thought was 100% dead, ended up having a tip of life that is now growing well. Things overall are looking like I always hoped they would. It's only been two weeks since the conversion. After a few months will be 100% proof. So far I'm cautiously ecstatic. I really do know this is the fix. It's just that my tank has had so many crashed in last 5 years, it's hard for me to comprehend it's fixed and I can actually enjoy the hobby again that I started 32 years ago.
