Chloroquine Phosphate

I've been unable to find chloroquine diphosphate[CD] readily available. Steven Pro, you mentioned that Aquatronic sells a product called Marex? I've been unable to find this.

I asked my doctor for prescription for CD. He could only find Chloroquine Phosphate[CP] ( it is commonly used for malaria in humans either as treatment or prophylactic).

Can I use CP? If so, is the dosage still 5-10mg/L as suggested by Dr. Noga for CD?

Is CP/CD also effective against Cryptocaryon irritans?

I don't think Aquatronics is making fish medicines any longer. I would not use CD for Crypt. Why are you asking about it?

Sorry, I'm not being clear - I am asking whether one could use Chloroquine Phosphate for Amyloodinium. (Doc did not find Chlorqouine DiPhosphate, only Chloroquine Phosphate).

I think you agreed with Dr. Nora that CD is effective against Amyloodinium.

bump?

I just want some opinion on whether Chloroquine Phosphate/ DiPhosphate are different, and their effectiveness aginst AMyloodinium?

Chloroquine Disphosphate and Chloroquine Phosphate are the same with regards to fish treatment.

Chloroquine Phosphate was used primarily for Marine Ich (Cryptocaryon irritans) and not Marine Velvet. The drug is prescription only and, with the easy availability of copper meds, it has been abandoned by aquarists.

I agree with Lee and yes it can give some immediate relief. However, I think your diagnosis is suspect. What make you think that your fish have amyloodinium? You have a history of jumping to conclusions and over medicating to the detriment of your fish. Maybe you should slow down and get a solid diagnosis and avoid shotgun treatments.

baobao,

My experience with Marine Velvet is that, if the fish had it and not been treated since when you posted your query a week ago, by now Marine Velvet would have killed the infected fish. Perhaps a better diagnosis is needed.

I'm not medicating, I just want to learn how to treat Amyloodinium the next time it strikes. I recognize that copper is effective alternative, but as Lee indicates, Amyloodinium strikes quickly and sometimes copper may be too slow.
