Choose between Seio or wavemaker MJ1200's

I have a 90 gallon reef tank I just set up, and its in need of flow. What would be better to buy two Seio 820's, or Mavemaker with three MJ1200's with the mod?

FYI. Seio Super Flow Pump should not be used with a wavemake. There is a tag that indicates this information on the electrical cord. It is a great product otherwise.

Thanks all I think I have decided on the MJ1200's with the wavemaker, and MJ mod. I did the mod on a MJ1200 and it worked great not only was the flow better but everytime it turns on and off it switches flow direction. The 90 gallon should have good flow with three of these and a wavemaker.

What size tank? The MJ1200 only pump like 295gph. The Seios range from 620 to 1500. You'll get SO much more flow!

yes but he said he is using modded MJ's. Never used one myself but people have said they create much more flow than a normal MJ

i have one seio 820 in my 20L and I am thinking of adding a MJ600 or 900 to add a bit of disruption. I would say go with two Seios of higher flow.

I vote seios higher flows too. I found myself in the same boat and tried the MJ but they are like a fire hose compared to the seios.

I have a 90. I had 5 MJ1200's, 4 on 2 wavemakers, plus a surge. It was not enough.

Now I have the cheapest Tunze stream (1600gph, $140) running full time, plus 3 MJ1200's on wavemakers hitting the dead spots. Wish I had the Tunze 2250gph instead.

Having said that the MJs are good reliable pumps going on 6 years. No experience with Seios. I've had the Tunze about a year.

why doesnt anyone understand that they will be modded MJ's. Has anyone ever watched the video of them? They are supposed to be just like a seio... I think that the modded MJ's will be plenty, and plus they are going on a wavemaker, you dont see any seio's doing that...

I dont think he is doing the same mod you are thinking of. He is cutting off the nozzle.

FWIW, I have 6 MJ's (with the nozzle mod) plus a return in my 75 and I have Tunzes on the way...

If your mind is made up don't worry about it. I think people are just trying to tell you that they have been there and that even 5 MJ's moded wasn't enough flow for them. It might be for you. The seio has a more spread out flow, the MJ even with the mod won't duplicate. Besides ONE seio 820 for 45 bucks at marinedept = 3 MJ's as far as flow is concerned. Seio will be comming out with a Wavemaker system for there pumps soon I have heard.

For what its worth I would start with a seio or 2 then add Mj's for the dead spots.

as far as the tunze lovers out there, its a given they are the best. But not a luxury everyone can afford. Tunze wasn't listed as one of his choices so why keep telling him to get one.

I have a 50Gal with 1 seio 1500, 1, 820 and one 620. For the 90 I would go with 2 1500's if I were you, unless this is a softie tank. If it is too much they can be turned back.

I have the Tunze Stream(1850gph) on the single controller and the magnet holder(must get IMO). One maxijet(295gph) and a penguin(300gph). Plus the two returns from the sump(about 500gph each return). I plan on replacing the penguin with a Seio 1100.
