Christmas Wrasse dead after 4 days

I bought a medium sized (3-4 in.) Christmas Wrasse from LiveAquaria. The first day it was placed in the tank, it hid all day, which is pretty normal. The second an third day, it was out and about, eating, and acting pretty normal. On the fourth day, I didn't see it at all so I figured it was hiding again. This morning, I found it dead.

The other fish in the tank are:
2 clowns
1 convict tang
1 hippo tang
1 bi-color angel

I also have some inverts, snails, hermits, and emerald crabs.

Do you thick any of these tank mates would have killed the wrasse?
So confused since it was acting fine.

You may never know why this fish died; it isn't all that unusual, but happens far less than it did years ago. The survival rate of fish from LA is amazing, and they really do honor their guarantee. I hope this fish didn't bring parasites or disease into your tank. I sure would get a QT before purchasing any new fish.

christmas wrasse or ornate wrasse wich is very similar usually don't ship very well try and find one locally

So you don't think it was harassed/killed by one of the tangs or the emerald crabs went after it?

I've never heard this. But, fish from LA are actually bagged & transported one less time than those bought at a LFS. Many, many hobbyists buy all fish online; I have for years and I'll never change. The customer service & guarantee at LA is an added bonus; plus fish aren't exposed to all the who knows what at most LFS.

if you do a search you will find that the halichoeres family does not do good when it comes to shipment the advantage of buying locally is that at least at that point the fish is still alive what ever they may or not contract at a lfs you should qt anyway most of my halichoeres species that i buy online now a days only come from one retailer & the one thing he does diferent is he ships them out in a 2inch sand bed and i'm not knocking live aquaria down there service is #1 i to buy from them on a regular basis

and one advantage of purchasing one @ a lfs you can always ask them to hold the fish for a week or two newsalt where in jersey are you located

I hope this time at the lfs isn't a substitute for a good QT regimen when you get the fish home. Because most LFS are on one water system; I'd prefer to get the fish out of the LFS and into my QT ASAP.

you have a few options by you witch are not the best but ok have you checked out aquatic obsessions in avenel he carries almost every wrasse & gets them in on a regular basis you also have tropiquarium on rt 35 and if you want to take an hour ride by me theres absolutely fish witch is by far the best

Actually, I emailed Absolutely Fish and they have the Christmas Wrasse in stock. I have not heard back from Tropiquarium.

talk to todd over at absolutely he will hold it for 2 weeks that's what i do all the time there there water and system is second to none top choice for me good luck with your purchase

aquatic obsessions witch is really close to always gets them in to but i never had much luck with his livestock he doesn't treat his water like absolutely and if your ever in the market to buy a bunch of fish at below wholesale prices try maximum reef aquatics in yonkers you'll be blown away worth the drive

i'm sorry about your lose. personally I would QT any fish that you get regardless of it coming from online purchase or lfs in the future. gives you time to make sure the fish is doing well (also gives you a time to inspect them for any parasite, etc.), give them time to recuperate and a chance to get used to food that you feed on a daily basis.
