I have a single Chromis and I just noticed he's missing scales and breathing hard :hmm2: he was doing fine earlier today I checked all of my parameters and they are fine everything else in the tank is perfect and eating and such but my Chromis ... Tankmates Pair of clowns , ywm goby and pep shrimp

I agree with the bullying, picked on, or someone preying on him. Do you have a false cleaner wrasse? What other tankmates?

Also, what size tank? I see one clown tankmate, but if you have a pair and they're in rather close quarters, youd be suprised how agressive clowns can get with other tankmates over "their" space.

other than the missing scales does the chromis have any open sores, excess mucus, ragged or torn fins, breathing rapidly? Also, a bit of history on the fish would be helpful.

It's possible it's uronema marinum which is very common in Chromis. Hopefully that's not the case. Did you qt this fish?

Sometimes my chromis look spotty like that when they first wake up, or if they get scared. If it goes away in a half hour I think it's nbd. But if you see continued heavy breathing and actual sores, that's bad cause it could be uronema like others said.

My chromis looks like that too. I only see it like that when it is on certain position, but mine doesn't breath heavily. I thought it is because it is not getting enough nutrients because I only feed 1 type of food most of time and only feed it once a day. I don't know if it is true or not. I heard they like to be fed 3 times a day or something. My chromis still look like that, it has been with me for like 8 months. It is active and eat well, too.
