Chromis school

anyone ever kept a chromis school?? do the actually interact with each other/follow each other around or are the never seen grouping together?? how big is a normal sized school???

Chromis school for protection. In a large system with larger fish, you'd likely see this behavior more, but in many tanks, if they don't feel threatened, they simply go their own way. I've kept groups of them (5-7) and they usually seem to pick each other off over time with little interaction. I'd usually end up with only a pair after a few months. JME

Same here. They school at the beginning for protection but than slowly they kill each other until you have 1-2 left.

Usually one pair will be left. In any case, there will be no schooling in a 14 gallon biocube.

I had bought 11 and my lion picked off 5 so I was down to 6. My lion died and they have been together no problems for about 8 months. They school great, I really like them. They bring my shy fish out. I heard if you have good water movement they wont attack each other as much. I have 2 Koralia 3's at each end of my 75 so it keeps my water moving plus my returns in the back so I have good movement so I think that helps a lot.

I have had 4 for about a year. Three school together in my tank and one hangs at the other end of the tank occasionally drifting over to the group for a few minutes. Highly active and great eaters. No messing around trying to get them to eat. I think a group of 3-5 in your size tank would be ok.
