So i have had 2 clown fish for quite awhile now and they seem happy
i want to add some chromis(3) and maybe a lemon damsel(1)? would that be okay? that would total 6 fish. i also want to get an anemone later on. would that be over crowding a 45g setup?

I have a 110gal tank, currently FOWLR, but was a mixed reef tank. A wild mated pair of Maroon clowns, 2 damsels and at one time 7 chromis, made up the former inhabitants. If I had to do the tank over [former] I'd stick with the chromis for lot's of reasons...great fun to watch as they school together, easy to keep, attractive and last but not least, inexpensive [as far as the hobby goes!]. Now I'm down to a Humu Humu and a lawnmower blenny. The Damsels were a bit on the aggressive/nasty side and the Clowns were quite attractive and kept to themselves, but I really enjoyed the Chromis. Maybe Anthius [sp]. Also very attractive schooling fish.

Whoa!!! Just noticed 45 gallon tank! Watch that bio-overload...a bit too much going on for a 45gal [IMHO] ....NEVER skip those sacred water changes either and always monitor your water parameters!

Yeah that's what I thought. I really want to get some chromis and really want an anemone and if I could add both without taking out the clowns then that would be great. But of course if I can't without making them all unhappy then I definitely won't.

IMHO...keep the clowns, add the anemone...and leave it at that. The symbiotic relationship between the two will keep you glued to the tank for hours on end! There is a lot to be said for 'simple' in this hobby. Best of luck!
