Circular flow in home aquarium?

JoelA7, it appears that you have built a few aquariums?

I am also trying to accomplish this same thing. I have a Mp40 on the side of my 36X22 aquarium and was thinking about adding two MP10 on the back 1 in each back corner and controlled by the apex.

Maybe I need another MP40 on the other side of the aquarium?

Good to see other cyclists on here.

Hi Cyclist. I had a 65 and a 150 but that was 10 or more years ago. Just coming back in now. Some aspects of the hobby have changed so much. Others not so much. Like water changes. ;-)

As to the circulation I'm feeling my way. I am going to try to get some laminar flow and see what happens. New tank arrives in 3 weeks. So it's a way off.

Rubber side down!!

Smsadmin what's the depth? Maybe a couple small pumps strategically placed to help the water make the turn so to speak.

Its 25" deep. I have been fighting with the flow for about 8 months now! Using 4 Jaebo WP-40's along with a couple smaller powerheads to blow through the rock work. Currently only have 3 of the Jaebos turned on because I felt like it was WAY too much flow. Thinking a controller might help me, but don't have the funds for one currently.

I have circular/gyre flow in my aquarium and accomplished it quite easily. My rockwork does not rest against the side or back of the aquarium. I have a single MP40 in the back left of the aquarium, blowing across the back of the tank. Water returns across the length of the tank in the front in the form of a giant undertow. This pump is always on reef crest mode. The return from my sump is on a seaswirl located in the back center of the tank. This adds some random swirls and interference to the overall gyre movement, but isn't strong enough to cause an interruption in momentum or a reversal of flow. At first I was worried this wouldn't be "random" enough as water flow never fully changes direction, but everything seems to be doing great. I think it's part of the reason I can get away with a single MP40 in a 90.
