Are they a "seasonal" fish, or harder to find... I've been watching my local stores for a while to no avail...

Did you try asking them to order you some? I saw two at one of my LFS's the other day, but I am not sure if they are seasonal. I also noticed they are in stock at Live aquaria, but it works wonders to actually talk to your LFS and get them to order what you want.

For the most part my LFS doesn't have a huge choice in what they get...beyond that, were they to order if for me, if the fish comes in looking like crap, its going to be a pain the refuse it...
so, before i asked for it, i was hoping to figure out if they were seasonal.....
