clam adjusting to light

i just picked up a clam from my lfs. it is about 3.5 in maxima. he was in a nano at the store and was only under pc lighting. the store owner said he had been in there for awhile. he looked health and i tested him for shadow reaction and he responded nice and fast. he looked healthy. now hes in my tank and hes not extented quite all the way. first off i want to know which is the top and which is the bottom of the clam as far as which end should i have resting on the sand. its under a 70 watt 14k halide. would the lack of extention possibly be to the brighter light.

it may take a bit of time for the clam to acclimate to your tank, his mantle should fully extend when he does.

he will also adjust himself to sit properly but if you want to get it right from the start, look at the bottom of the clam. the byssal opening ( small hole or slit in larger clams ) should be facing down.
