clam attached to glass

Hey,
I've got a crocea on my substrate. I had placed some small live rock just under the substrate hoping it would attach to that and then it would be easy to move should i ever need to. Last night i tried to move the clam and it seems like maybe it has started to attach to the glass under the substrate and not the live rock. Could this be a problem. I know that they can bore into rock, so if it does this to the glass could it break the glass.
Thanks

I have no idea but you could try removing the clam from the glass.

If it did bore thru your glass you would have the bes "You aren't gonna believe this but..." reefing story EVER!

How do they bore into rocks? I heard about some clams that use an acid to eat away the limestone rocks. If this is the case, your glass should be completely unaffected.

Even if they do it physically, glass is REALLY hard stuff. Thats why you need a diamond bit to drill it.

I had one that would do that from time to time. It eventually settled itself into a more sutible home in my rocks. And was very happy until it got eaten by a big 'ol hermit crab.

Shoulda stayed on the glass, I guess....

Cheers...Michael

Croceas bore by using their shell as a file and also by secreting organic acids from the byssal area that dissolve limestone. Therefore, I don't think it would bore through the glass for 2 reasons:
1)the shell is softer than glass
2)the organic acids are used to dissolve limestone, not glass

I figured that if they could bore into the glass i would have heard about it on the forums, but I just wanted to make sure.
Thanks
