Clam has not opened in two days. Any ideads on the usual causes.

pH 8.3
Nitrate under 5
Ca 440
dKH 7.7

I have no Mg reading, need a new kit, have needed one for awhile.

Lighting is 4 39W T5 bulbs. I have had the clam for 2 years, it's grown about 4".

Fish:
Midas Blenny
Bi Color Blenny
pair of clowns

Inverts
3 peppermint shrimp
1 blood shrimp
6 emerald crabs
1 hermit scrab
5 astrea
couple of naussarius

I dose for CA, MG, Alk, phyto, stronieum, vitamin C, amino acids, and Kent's Coral Vite

All dosing is done in sump then returned to tank.

Just picked up some carbon. Am about to do a large water change.

I'll post a pic when the lights come on. It just looks like a closed clam, no mantle extension at all.

I moved the clam during the water change. Barely touching it, I really took care to be extra gentle, it dettatched from the rock. It looks like it's foot has rotted (word chosen carefully) off. Inside of the clam seems to have a hollow area.

Gonner?

watch the bicolour, they are known clam nippers. place half a pop bottle, with some holes for water movement over the clam and see if he opens.

i would almost guarantee you it is the blenny. also they can drop their byssal thread, so i wouldn't call him a gonner yet, he is holding himself closed still.......

I second that and would add that no blennie is clam safe, along with the emerald crabs and shrimp.

are you shure your nassarus snails aren't whelks?

Here is a pic

Blenny has been in with the clam for almost two years, never a problem before, never seen the blenny pay much attention to the clam at all, I do watch the tank a bit, at least an hour a day.

I'm 100% sure the snails are not whelks. They came from Etropicals, have had them for maybe a year or so.

Infact there are no new inhabitants other then 4 SPS frags, all whom where QT'd, in the last 6 months.

Nothing is new.

try moving the frogspawn, I bet it has stung the clam.

But on a sad note the clam looks like a goner to me, sorry.

They aren't whelks if you have had them for a year. Whelks attack asap.

I just moved the clam there for the pic, it wasn't kept next to the frogspawn. I was under the impression clams were immune from stings so it's good I know now for the next clam I get one day.

The LFS that I get my salt water from changed salt brands maybe two months ago. That's the only change.

I came home last night and the clam was dead. The insides were outside and hanging on by a string, so I removed it from the tank.
