Clam foot + incurrent syphon = confused

I have a clam that is sticking its foot out of its incurrent syphon. I have had this clam about 2 years now and have NO IDEA why it is doing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just every now and then. It is responding fine and is about a 4 inch Squamosa (I got it at around 1/3 inch). I mean I don't get it. I have read almost every book. I can even breed maximas in my tank. I have done it 30 times. I have over 32 clams, but this one is special because I saved him.

sorry, i know this has nothing to do with your question but i just had to ask. wow! how do you go about breeding tridacnas? do they mate/lay eggs/spawn? any success in rearing them to maturity? i've always been curious on how they reproduce and this is the first time i heard of anyone breeding them. maybe you can also point me as to where i can read up more about them. TIA!:)

breed as in you've actually spawned and raised baby clams in a home aquarium?? that is very hard to believe but i would love to think its true!
