Clam Foot

Does anyone know how to release the foot of a clam that is attached to a piece of rock. I need to inspect the bottom of the clam for Pyramid snails.

Sayyjimm,

Do you have go reason to suspect parasitic snails? If you really feel you must do the inspection, is it possible to lift up the rock the clam is attached to instead?

If not, you can take a small, sharp pair of scissors, gently rock the clam to the side a little so that you get a clear view of what you are cutting, and snip the byssal threads that the clam uses to attach. This will not hurt the clam as long as you are careful to cut only the threads.
