I just purchased both of these about a month ago. They were sold as crocea but the smaller one has protruding ridges on the shell. Can anyone give me a posative ID on the small one.
the over all shell shape is very caricaturistic of a crocea. its not elongated like a maxima,but the shutes are wider spaced then you would expect on a crocea. but i would still say that its a crocea. if you really really want to know then take the clam out of the tank and get a shot of the clam from dead on the side then get a shot of the byssal opening
Well the little guy has attached him self. I'm happy either way just thought it was odd that the bigger one was smooth & the little gut had such protruding shutes.
croceas do grow shutes but they are very thin. most croceas are wild collected . in the wild they bore down into the reef and the shutes break off, sometimes the only remaining shutes are at the top edge
