Clam ID please

Just wanted to see if I am correct in the ID on this guy. I believe it's a Teardrop Maxima but wanted confirmation before I purchase, so I can have optimal placement ect.

While generally referred to as T. maxima in the hobby, teardrop maxis were just recently re-classified as T. noae and I believe that is what you have there.

Thank you for the reply, yes I was aware of the classification I just wanted a second opinion as there is a T.Squamosa that looks very close.
It's not my first clam just haven't had one since I took a break from the hobby 12 years ago. I'm just trying to be 100% before moving forward.

Yeah, you can't post links from Reef builders on RC, why? Im not sure, that would be a Mod. or Admin. question.

I learned about it from an advanced aquarist article. Its not a squammy, their shells are a bit different, and shell structure is the most accurate trait with IDing Tridacnids since mantel pattern and color can vary so much.

Like T. crocea and T. maxima these guys are one of the more difficult clams compared to squammys, derasa, and gigas, mainly because of lighting requirements. Cool clams though, if my current tank wasn't so high flow I would look into keeping tridacnids again, a tear drop would definitely be on my list, very cool clams

Nice teardrop!! I have tri dacha nose myself. It is is different than maxima. I noticed the exhalent siphon is located more toward middle, comparing to maxima. Mine is doing well in the same par range (150-200) as all other squamosa clams.

Got him yesterday, took to the tank and the Kessil very well.

Does yours color differently when viewed from above?
I have one too but the color is an overall tan when viewed sideways but when viewed from the top, it shows its green, yellow and blue colors. Wondering if mine is acting strange...

Completely normal, big reason why some clam freaks like shallower open top tanks on shorter stands.
