Clam ID

Hey guys...I wanted to post this here to get some help with an ID. In the other thread I posted in reef discussion, someone said they thought this was a maxma clam. Can anyone help me ID this clam? Here is a pic:

The clam looks a bit more purple-ish when actually looking at it rather than in the pic. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Jim

Thanks for the reply. Since I am new to clams...I have been trying to read up and do some research. When you say keep an eye on the mantle....what exactly is the mantle and what am I looking for?

Thanks, Jim

Also....I gorgot to mention....currently the halides are on for about 6 1/2 hours. Should I bump the halide time up a bit due to the clam now?

Jim

mantle is the fleshy part that opens up to light, basically the colorful area. thats a crocea clam, and what clamdigs means about keeping an eye on the mantle is to watch out for pinched mantle. The mantle curls upwards and in towards the clam and generally progresses to a more and more upset state until the clam eventually dies.
yes, you should bump up the halide an hour or more not only for your clam, but for all your other corals.

Thanks for the info....it's very helpful. Do you think (based on the picture) that it is too confined sitting on that rock. I was wondering if it would ever have problems with it's shell being able to open up due to the rock around it.
