clam in 5.5g w/72watts pc's??

hello guy i was just thinking of get a clam or two for the tank, well not anytime soon. but do you think it can be done with a tank this small? i think i have enough lighting wpg72 watts of PC's = 13 or so watts per gallon:smokin:

what do you think?

Not too sure, but I do know "watts per gallon" does not apply to saltwater.

clams are way to sensitive to water changes etc... especially in a 5.5.

I'm no expert, but I've seen a clam kept in a 3g with a 70w MH, it was doing fine, color was excellent and it was wide open. Even had a Clown that had decided to host in it and the clam let it. Was kind of funny actually.

change the water every day and swap out for PCs for an HQI maybe. The watts-per-gallon concept breaks down at a certain point. Sticking 5 watts over a half gallon bown would be 10 watts per gallon if you want to play with it that way- but I wouldnt put a coral, much less a clam, in there.

from what ive heard, its all about light intensity with clams, i imagine it could be possible with HQI i think. your only problem will be feeding a small clam in that small of a water volume. i think if you get one 3" or bigger, theyre more photosynthetic than plankton filter-feeders.

i might try it when the tank is a year old. maybe a derasa, if it doesn't work i can always put it in my buddy tank or return it to the LSF.

is 72 watts of PC's the same to 70 watts of HQI? might be a dumb ???

It doesnt have to do with wattage as much as intensity of the lighting.....MH's are way more intense than any CP fixture...

right- halides are more intense for the wattage that they used when compared to any sort of flourescent. same wattage, brighter light
