clam issues......

unbelievable

I have a deresa clam that isn't looking too hot. A few days ago I saw a 1" white piece of what looked like flesh floating around my tank. It was about 1" with little hairs off of it. I'm assuming it was part of the clam. I guess I'm wondering if the clam will regrow this or if its doomed for death. Tia.

Is the clam not opening, how long have you had it, and where is it placed, if the foot ripped off that could be a problem sounds like what you decscribed wasnt that but a part of the mouth maybe?

I'm wondering if you picked up a hitch hicker at some point that might be eating at it. I know nothing about clams though so that's the best I can give you, sorry :)

Sounds like it was attacked by some predator. It may heal or it can foul the tank if it dies. Keep a close watch on it.

It's still holding on as of this morning. I haven't introduced anything new in a while and my other 2 clams are doing fine so far. Any other insight is great. Thanks people.

The white flesh you described sounds like the clam's byssal gland. Otherwise healthy clams can often grow this back, but sometimes it seems that loss of this part is followed by death.

You might want to ask in the Clam Forum.
