Clam Movement

I moved my Crocea and Deresa up higher on the rock work after acclimating them on the sandbed. My worry is that the clams will attach its foot on the rock and I will not be able to move them later. Should I put a small rock underneath both of them or will the clams release from the rock when I want to move them later?

Deresa are better in the sand and you can put a small rock under its foot so you can move them later but they will move till they are happy so you may be moving that small rock with it for awhile
Croceas need to be in the rock work and will also keep moving till they are happy so so you could try to put them on a rock you want but they may move off it....
My crocea moved to a rock it liked and even in a tank upgrade it kept itself attached to that rock as I had it placed in a similar position in the new tank

put a small flat rock under the crocea and place the derasa back on the sand, they usually wont attach and use their own weight to stay in place.

Both of my Deresa have attached to the stones they are on since they were 2" and they are over 6" in size now. I think one unattached for a short period but not for long..they do and can attach to objects. Just wanted that to be known just in case.

If you have a clam on the sand, it's best to place a flat rock or other hard object beneath it to help protect its byssal organ from predators. You can remove them later by cutting the byssal threads. You just have to be careful. The flatter the rock it's attached to, the easier it is to do without harming the clam. Both of my clams are attached to a smaller rock and oyster shell I can easily move if I need to. Once they're big enough, I'm pretty sure they stop attaching (mine are still pretty small).

that's why i said usually

they will attach when small but stop as they get larger and eventually lose the ability to attach at all. a 2" derasa is very young but i wouldn't be surprised if at 6" they have both let go.

I knew what you meant but the " Usually" word can get you in trouble in this hobby sometimes. Like usually the wont eat your fish or usually they wont grow that big, or usually they.....I`m sure you know what I mean. Something always wants to go against whats is the norm.
Actually I just upgraded tanks to a much larger one than they were in and thought they would have let go but they are still attached to the small rocks I put underneath them a yr ago..
