Clam Question

I have recently purchased a clam and it has finally decided to attach itself. Unfortunately it decided to attach to the rockwork instead of the base I made for it. It also moved itself to about halfway between standing up and being on its side. Is it ok that it is leaning half way over? Also I noticed that on one side of the shell, it had some damage. In the white area where the clam is growing, some of the tips look a little chipped. Would this be from falling over before it became attached? Thanks for any help.

The chipped shell is not an issue. Also that the clam attached to the rockwork is not an issue. I would try to upright it though. I would move the piece of epoxy that you made for it to attach to and see if the clam uprights itself. It may, just be sure it wont fall if it detaches on its own. Also if need be you can cut the threads that it attached to the rock with a sharp razor blade as close to the rock as possible. Or you could cut the rock with a pair of bone cutters and upright the clam.

Thanks for the response.

You cant really tell in the picture but the clam is actually attached to the rockwork behind it which is pretty much vertical. If I remove the epoxy I think it will hang upside down since the byssal thread looks pretty short. I will try to straighten him out and see what he does.
