hi i have few questions
does the clam need to be attached to something of hard sufrace? or can it just sit in the sand.
i had my clam for about a year now its fully open and seen to been doing fine it has grown a bit as well..... the clam was sitting in sand and one side was touching a big piece of rock was like that for a long time..... i just noticed today that that it is still in the same position but it has blown ( about " 2 ) of sand from underneath itself ...one side still resting on sand on the other against the rock wtih a big hole on the botton and i saw (whatever the inside part is called that clam have on their bottom) just kindda hanging out..... im not sure if the clam was trying to move itself or what?!? anyway what i did is cover the hole back up and placed a piece of eggcreate under the clam and put some sand on it along with the clam. thanks for any advice in advance.....

well they need a place to attach to feel comfortable, so i recommend a flat rock but sand is fine though if you see them acting up you know it is time for a change

What kind of clam? Some like the sandbed some like structure to attach too. Crocea and Maxima like to attach, Gigas and Deresa clams like the sand. Squami's go either way.
If you've ever read the instructions for aqua medic's 2 part epoxy, it says to mix up enough to roll into a round flat piece that when cured can be put under a clam to attach too. People have used a lot of different things, if your sandbed isn't too deep a clam can attach to the glass bottom of the tank.

this is the picture of the clam( its not in the same location now) back from march i dont know what kind it is

That kind of clam likes to be in the rocks. I find a crack between 2 rocks for them to set in & attach themselves.

thank you puffer.......
how big do these clams get?
and whats theair avarage growth rate?
im asking cuz what is gonna happen if its starts growing and there will not be enough room if i place it between 2 rocks???
will it slow the growth rate down?? sorry to ask so many questions i just like to provide the best eviroment possible for this creature..

They are very slow growers. I got one at 2-3" about 4 years ago & it's 5" now. These species don't get as large as the giant ones. Try doing a search on Crocea clams, for more info.

They love DT's phytoplankton.

Thanks, I've got 2 of those. If you have good sucess with that one, then you should get a few more. Every one is different.
