Clam questions

1) I started my 6" clam on the rocks when I got because the LFS guy told me that was where he would live. After researching the clam, I realized that it was a derasa and moved it to the sand. Only, he seemed much happier on the rocks. On the sand he tends nt to extend his mantle as far as he did when on the rocks. Should I move him back or will a 6" derasa eventually die on the rocks.

2) What do you feed, how often, how much, and how do you make sure that the clam gets the food.

Thanks

the derasa gets very large. one of the bigger clams to the trade. unless he has a ton of room to grow on the rocks, i would try to keep him in the sand and find a place where he fully opens up. as for feeding, i feed "coral Frenzy" to all my coral and my sqamossa clam and he is doing great. he has grown 3 inches since i got him. i feed that twice per week because i have alot of other corals to feed. it all depends on how many corals you have. if you dont have many, i would say just put some in your tank once a week. hope i helped

a clam doesn't have a brain so he wouldn't know whether he is on the rocks or sand, as mentioned above it is more important to have enough room to grow i think the first thing you should do is post a pic to get a positive ID and tell us a bit more about your system. ( lighting etc..... )

do you have a couple fish in the tank??

feeding a clam is only required if you have no fish or don't feed your fish. then i would suggest adding a little phytoplankton to the water, other than that the clam can get everything he needs directly from the water ( and zoox. )
