Clam Tanks...

hey kevin,
i'm sure chris at ocean images could build a tank like that for you.he's located in pottstown pa very close to you and local pick up to save on shipping but it's still a custom build. and he has sponsored the club (that's where the cube tank come from.)
his web address is on ncpars.org

Actually..all the ads and sponsor info is gone..looks like it never went back up after the hacker attack. Anyway..I found them http://www.oceanimage.net/ ..and they still appear to only do glass. Glass won't work for this setup, you need acrylic for that sharp angle.

if there have been any studies on light penetration if there is only light over the flat top part since I would only do this if I could jut out the 45 deg part from a wall
They have a tank like this at the Pittsburgh Zoo and I saw similar ones at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha Nebraska. Neither one seemed to be able to light the slanted part and get things to grow well there.

i think it would be possible to grow things in the slanted part provided that it only sticks out 4" or so from the rest of the tank. I would modify a reflector to have an open side facing the slated part and turn the reflector 5 -10 degrees or so so that light could enter it at an an angle and reach those tough spots.

I thought about that too...but will it then TURN towards that light..defeating the purpose of the top view?

you can always just put the clams 4" back ( however i don't think they would turn much, and if they do just put them between two rocks!), after all the angled viewing panel lets you see the entire tank from a top view, and who puts their clams right against the glass anyway :-)

The post on the other forum seems to have died..so I guess I'm back to having somebody build one if I'm going to try it. I wouldn't mind setting it up now BEFORE I move and put it in a wall so if anybody out there knows someone who can make one..let me know.

That way I can simulate it for 6 months and see if it works..before I make it a permanent fixture!

Thanks.
