Clam

I bought this clam, 2", on Sunday have until Friday to get my money back if it dies. So my question is: Will this clam make it, or is it on its way out.

When I look through the "mouth" hole, there is no clam on the other side, its a hole to the sandbed.

I have another crocea that I have had for about 9 months and it is doing great.

Well, it looks as if the mantle isn't extended as much as could be, and it looks a bit pale in the center, as if it may be bleaching, but it might be the camera angle. The opening that large on a crocea isn't that unusual; I'd certainly give it time, but it doesn't look healthy right at the moment. It may be acclimating- when was the photo taken? Wait a few more days, they can really spring back. Interesting guarantee, by the way- haven't had that experience with an lfs- good luck-

i think you can turn it around........at that small you will have to feed it yourself. i'm not expert on small clams, but i know its much harder to keep anything under 3 inches alive. I'm sure many people here will give you ideas on how to treat the little guy.

If that is the largest it opens, it looks like it might be PM to me. If you just added it, I'd give it another 24 hrs. If it still looks like that or non extension, you might need to do a FW dip. Between 20 and 30 minutes I've read. If you don't want to mess with it, I'd possibly return it.

Added him to the tank Sunday night, been 4 days now. It opens up the mantle a bit more than what the picture shows (point and shoot).

I know that they are not photsynthetic at this point, so I need to supplement.

I would prefer to keep him, like it and give it my all, rather then sending it back where it has no chance in hell.

They are photosynthetic even at this size. I have had a few clams that were this size approximately and grow very well without ever being fed. Feeding can help however imo it isn't necessary. So you need to make sure the lighting is up to par because it still is going to use the majority of that.
