Clams in a 90 gal

Hi, I'm getting ready to move and will be taking down my 75 gal. I'd like to start a 90 gal later and start in to maximas eventually. What are your suggestions for light? Can I avoid a chiller?

Thanks

For maximas in a 90 gallon tank, thats 24 inches in depth....I would say two sunlight supply ROIII or PFO mini pendants in 250DE with the pheonix/AC 14k bulb with that bulb actinic suplimentation would not be necessary...and the PAR would be outstaniding...the clams could be easily kept on the bottom of the tank. The pendants can be mounted higher up and thus heat would not be a serious problem...if you had them close to the water mounted in an inclosed canopy then heat would be a definite concern....

Go with the phoenix as oposed to the AC bulb...its basicly the same exact bulb...but less money the phoenix retails at 70 bucks the AC is 115 so its a no brainer...

Good advice. Bare minimum light would be 2x175w MH bulbs. Preferable would be 2x250, and then you could keep them on the sandbed. No need for a chiller if heat is planned for (fans, pendants, etc.)

Not to highjack, but here goes. Will the clams move around the tank at all ? To be more specific, will they be knocking rock work, etc. over?

Sometimes they are picky about where they will atach, but they wont knock over rock work, odds are they will fall over or off the rock work down onto the substrate....

If I do 2X250's, can I use a hood with fans? If not, I'm obviously limited to pendants.

If yes, can I also add vho's?

VHO's aren't needed with a good k halide bulb, but if you want them for a dawn/dusk period then that's great if your willing to pay for them. Fans in the hood would be fine (IMO required to keep good temp) as long as the hood is 12+ inches tall to leave enough space between the water and the bulbs. Don't try putting bulbs in a standard 8" hood.
