i was looking into buying a red sea max, and i was wondering if clams would be okay under it's t-5 lights. If i can't keep them, it's okay, but i always wanted to have a clam and was thinking if they would do good in there. Any input is appreciated! Thanks

JJ

Squamosas and Deresas should be fine but croceas and maximas won't thrive unless they are on the top and then you won't see their colors as well as if they were on the bottom.

Here's mine:

I have the nanocustoms 150hqi retrofit with a 14,000k Phoenix and 2 18w actinics. Not a great picture but it should answer your question.

Is that on a RSM or another tank?

I would avoid clams in it because its T5 sized PC lights. I am getting one soon but have looked in the stores.. not very well equipped for clammage =\

Mine is a RSM and I can tell you from experience that Squamosas and Deresas will do fine with the stock t5's. In fact t5's are better than they are credited for by many halide purists. Having said that I upgraded to 150w HQI's so i could keep croceas and maximas. All 6 clams are doing fine and I am looking to get 2 more.

I am not dissing T5s I have teklight's T5s on my 55 and am successfully keeping a crocea.

I'm just saying that having not owned a RSM tank yet, I am weary of their strange light design but hope to experiment as I will be able to afford one soon.

My question is what do you do with a squamosa or deresa in a tank that is.. "small" comapred to the size they can get? ;p

I'll keep my Squam until I feel it is aesthetically unpleasing and then trade it with someone in my local Reef Club or Trade with one of my local LFS. I still have a ways to go before this happens.

Barry, I think you misunderstood. He is referring to the Manufacturer Red Sea which has a unit out called MAx.

By the way, when you getting new clams in?
