Clams positioning

Emma, my wife, bought me a nice maxima yesterday and I located in a bright spot in a fairly modest flow after it was acclimatised yesterday afternoon. It was open and seemed fine then this morning it was on the sand.

So i repositioned it lower down, still a bright spot but a higher flow, but within two hours it had 'jumped' onto the sand.

I guess the question is the guidance for positioning them i have seen is pretty vauge, is it best to keep moving them around until i find a spot it likes, even if this means repositioning it several times a day?

On the baisis that it was in the same spot on the rocks all yesterday afternoon and only moved in the night, is it worth perservering and trying to fix it in place in the orginal postion?

Am i right in thinking that maximas prefer to be located on rockwork rather than on the sand?

Any guidance greratfully received.

Try letting it stay on the sand, but place a flat rock or peice of shell or other object about 1\4" under the sand, underneath the clam. This way the clam is able to attach to something via it's byssal gland, and the likelyhood of predators entering through the hinge is lessened. Good luck, and let's see some pics! :)

Hi and thanks for the reply

I have seen similar comments made about placing the clam on the sand witrh a bit of rock beneath it.

Assumning that the clams attaches to the rock, would you simply leave it on the sand or would you then reposition itr where you wanted it to?

Or is the rock simply to provide some protection from possible predation?
