Clams + tap water = ??

Can a maxima and crocea clam live in tap water? I have ample light and flow in the tank. There is no nuisance algae in the tank and the softies and LPS coral in the tank are doing very well. My fish have actually grown some! I was thinking of getting a nice maxima or crocea when my tank hits the 7-9 month mark. Please, any help at all is appreciated!!

as long as the chlorine level is nonexistent. but just b/c you don't have algae at this point does not mean you will not have a serious prob becsuse of the tap water. what kinda critters/fish are in the tank now?

My water is good to go from the tap, you may or may not have the same luck.

Have you tested your water? How are your NO and PO? I'd think that as long as your levels are good, the clam should do fine.

It means a exploding clam that will kill you in the blast!
In reality if your corals are okay in your tap then its likely that your tap water is acceptable for clams. I did it for a while before my ro/di came in. But hopefully by the 7-9month mark you can get a ro/di unit yourself.

Most water districts add all kinds of crap to the water for treatment (chlorine or chloramine) and fluoride addition, etc. You may get away with it, but it's far from the best way to do things. You spend tons of money on livestock, spend a little extra on an RO/DI and do it the right (and 100% safe) way...

Depends on what's in the tap water. Even small undtectable amounts of free copper from pipes, fittings ,etc. would be a concern .
