?clams under pc

I know that this is a dumb question for most of you. I have a 120g under 260w of pc lighting and I know that I can't have most clams without mh but I don't like mh and I have a mushroom tank but I would love to have a clam other then the few hitchikers. Is there any type that I can have under this lighting?

Hate to say it, but I wouldn't even do that.....260 watts is WAY too litle lighting for that size a tank for even a derasa. Watts pergallon is a terrible measurement, but for a 120gallon tank you would want more like 5-6 watts pre gallon PCs to support a derasa. If you add a few more 96w tubes to the tank you might be able to supprt a low light clam. Best of luck!!

you know my buddy has a 240g with only 520w of PC and he is able to keep a derasa and maxima alive...although they do not thrive but they do survive

Yes, but for how long has he kept them alive? Clams slowly starve to death in about 6 months, and then are suddenly gone.

Not to stand on a soapbox, but we should be concerned with our animals about surviving vs/ thriving. I could keep a dog chained in a little box feeding him small pieces of tofu, but it wouldn't be fair....he would be much happier in a big yard with access to dog food :)

his tank has been running for 2 years now and it has been in there for 1 year and has grown a few rings..

of course sw-addict if u were goin to keep the clams ...leave him at the highest peak of the rocks as you can

i know you guys don't want to hear this but ive had a crocea under 4x96 watt PCs for 3 years now. wouldn't reccomend it though, used to be under haliues but i took em off. its a 135 by the way

what i plan to do is just an experiment. i plan on keeping the clam high in the tank and feed DTS. if the clam seems to be suffering from the conditions i'll give it to a friend of mine

Exactly...that's the problem. They look perfect and the next day their gone. It's just not fair to the animal....not to be preachy...sorry :)

if VHO's can do it than i am confident in PC's. PC's, despite what people say, can be very strong. all of my corals have to be reacclimated when moving from the LFS to my tank, or else they burn. at the store they are kept under 175w pendants.

mushrooms don't reach for light at the bottom of my tank and my yellow leather thrives at the top. I strongly feel that a Dersa can de kept at the top of a PC tank, if enough wattage is used

Absolutely a derasa can...I've seen it myself.....I just think the original poster could use a tad more light for one :)
