clams

Check around the mantles you may have small snails attathed that eat them. If you do then pull your clams out every few days a keep getting rid of the snails till there gone.

If I remember correctly from my research, clams can carry a ton of little intruders. Dips in (something I forget), can get the critters to come out.

go to the forum area of www.clamsdirect.com and they'll help you.

thanks for the help i have tryed posting pic it all ways says file to big any help ther

crop and/or compress the photos. If you have MS office, right-click on the picture file and, under the open with... menu, choose Microsoft Office Picture Manager. In the picture menu, use crop to cut out only the part of the picture that is needed, then use Compress Pictures, and choose Web Pages. Depending on the picture size and complexity, this will shrink down the file size to .1 to .01 of original. save or save as... and try again.

you are correct it is the mantle thats the colorful part. the byssal is on the bottom, holds the clam to the substrate when it is young. Yeah see if you can shrink your pic down and atleast put it in your gallery so we could see it. Also I believe the snails bore through the actual clam shell, not the mantle but I could be wrong. Or do you have a "window" in the color? which means a loss of the symbiotic algae making it clear? Those usually appear to be round also.

Just setup a free photobucket.com account and use that to host your pictures. That way you will not have to worry about resizing them.
