Clams

Slave to the reef!
One of my clams is doing great, the other isn't. Any suggestions?

The Crocea is about 3-1/2" and is doing great. The poor Derasa measures about 9-1/2" and looked fine yesterday. Water temp got down to 77 this a.m., other than that, everything's the same. Thought if water parameters were off they would both be affected. Guess I should read up on Reef Central for things to look for. Don't want to loose him.

Wow, big clam. I lost a crocea due to water quality issues while another crocea was unphased. Might want to check the water just to see if anything's out of line. Other than that good luck, hope you don't lose it.

Derasa's tend to be hardier than most clams with crocera being the most sensitive (gigas>derasa>maxima>crocera). Although its hard to see from the photo exactly whats up. Clam bad signs are gaping mouth retracted mantle. The larger the more feeding needs. I've had 3 clams (derasa 10", crocera 4" and maxima 6") for 2 years and never feed them, but I have a healthy refugium feeding the whole tank. You may want to add some DT oyster eggs, cyclopeeze, or phytoplankton if you dont have a fuge.

I'd give it a day or two and see what transpires. Are they recent additions?
