what do they eat?
I am planning to get a couple from my local fish store that sells them and he sell wholesale to the public so the price might be less then what is online but not known yet. I know that my tank has enough light for them 150w hqi 28 gal nanocube so I am thinking a maxima and a crocia if ava and are aquacultured 1-2" clams

They usually absorb phytoplankton when small, you can try Reef Nutrition's Phytofeast or DT's Phytoplanktons.

actually the latest book by james fatheree disputes the claim that small clams require phyto. Furthermore dosing phyto in a nano tank is not ideal given over-dosing will result in an algae feast.

Proper lighting is the key to small and large clams - but personally I think a 28 gallon nanocube isn't big enough to house any tridacnid clam long term.

as long as you have good lights and some fish you feed regularly supplemental feeding is not required for any size of Tridacnid clam. for a 28G i would recommend going with the crocea and placing him halfway up on the rocks, after acclimation.

I agree, I don't find there's any real use of dosing phyto. Good lighting should suffice.
