Clarion Angels

I cant really say as i wasnt there im just going by what lee over there told me on the phone.

he may have been mistaken on his ID but as far as he knows it was one.

ill find out more from the wholesale he got it from when i get a chance.

you just never know.

Since the only Clarions for sale in the US are either very old, one of the few that came out of the shipment last year before the confiscations (wholesale SDC price was $1500.00 I believe) or a rarity smuggled in, there is little chance thats what he had. After the initial post above with the store name and that price, I guarantee you his answering machine was full in one hour.

I would say, if anything he may have had a very juvenile Passer angel that was misidientified as a Clarion in juvenile colors. At 6 inches I would not believe that possible.

the fish was origionaly $799 but they were runing a 50% off sale. He was in the first tank in the back on the right for those who go there.

"Werent very saught after" (???)

Is this shop on planet earth???

This starting to remind me the boylei thread of few days ago.

this guy didnt seem to sure of himself i was on hold for like 15 mins then that the answer i was given

hey ei cant really comment tho as i didnt see it but i trust fish finder on his id as he deals in rare fish to begin with but whats with the boylei

im gonna look now but i missed that thread.

ahhh peppermint angels man those are stunning didnt know latin name.

if i could ever get ahold of 2 of those wow

maybe someone will start breeding them.

Why would some body just get a fish and price it at $799 and then all of a sudden include it in a 50% off sale. Also they couldn't of had the fish that long as a lot of people go into the store and some one would have noticed that it was a Clarion Angel and grab it for that price.

they always have the 50% off

thats nothing new but the tank is not really that well seen from what i understand its kind of hidden so unless your looking for it explicitly you probably wouldnt notice it.

Why would they just get a fish in, price it, and then all of a sudden discount it 50%. Also why would you place a $799 in a tank where nobody can or would see it. That's a pretty expensive fish, a lot more than the prices that Joe mention on the other fish that they had.

i cant speak for others but if the only tank to fit a good size fish in is located a little out of the way then in that tank it goes and they always have 50% off livestock thats nothing new to them

few months back they had an african dragon moray and a hawiian dragon 50% off only reason i know is because someone i know got them both after the discount.

i know in the lfs i work in sometimes because of whats in the tank we have to put some of the more exensive fish in larger tanks that are a tad out of sight and unless you know what your looking for you wouldnt notice it at all.

and to be honest if it were me and im not very well versed in all salt water fish its very easy to mislabel something not realizing what it really is. as this does happen quite often i cant see why 1 could slip thru unnoticed regardless of how rare and unlikely that may seem

nah im good no sense in going to get something they dont got.

thanks tho.

guess ill have to hit whole sale with les one day to see whats good there.

I was under the impression that the Mexican Government closed ALL collections down, declared the Clarion/Clipperton Island chain sanctuaries thus ending any and all fish collection within "X" amount of feet from the island. They also stated that the Clarion and Clipperton Angels protected and no longer legal to collect and sell for the marine trade. If this is true then everyone of the Clarion angels that has come into this country in the last several years was illegal. Under the "Lacy Act" anyone in possession or selling these animals is breaking a federal crime unless they can proove that they obtained the animal BEFORE the law was put into effect. This is serious stuff and people do go to jail for this kind of thing.

Just figured that I would let you know.

Good Luck,

tyler

Clarion angels are not illegal to possess or sell in the United States. Anyone lucky (crazy, stupid, wealthy, fortunate,,,etc..-- insert your own term)enough to have gotten one from the wholesalers before the confiscation in 2004 has a legal fish.

The simplest way to put it is that they are illegal to export out of Mexico. Therefore any importation should be rejected by USFWS since all incoming livestock must be legally declared. You don't get a free pass once they hit US soil just because you managed to sneak them on a plane past the Mexican government.
